BOST Supports Ashanti Regional Red Cross Society

Management of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Company Limited( BOST) has presented a cheque of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢5000) to management of the Ashanti regional Red Cross Society. The amount according to the company, is to cushion the regional office of the Ghana Red Cross Society in some of its administrative expenditures.

The Media Relation Officer of BOST, Nana Akua Adubea Obeng presenting the cheque on behalf of BOST to the regional officials of the Red Cross Society in Kumasi on the 19th January,2018 explained that her outfit received a letter from management of the regional Red Cross early this year seeking for financial assistance to help the office in the discharge of its mandated duties.

Nana Akua Adubea said management as part of the company's cooperate social responsibility commitments and considering the critical role that the Red Cross Society plays in the country's emergency health service delivery responded promptly to the request hence the issuance of the cheque.

“We had a letter from the Ashanti regional office of the Ghana Red Cross Society requesting for support from our outfit. We scrutinized the request and responded accordingly since it forms part of BOST's corporate social responsibility to support health, education and any social institution who may knock on our doors for help", she stated.

The Media Relation Officer commended Ghana Red Cross Society for the meritorious services rendered since its establishment some sixty years ago, adding that the society's health support and voluntery services have been of great benefit to most Ghanaians.

She noted that BOST alone cannot provide the needed support for the Regional activities of the society and as such called on other Corporate bodies to contribute to support the Ghana Red Cross in the region and across the country.

The Red Cross Regional manager, Mr. Michael Asante, receiving the cheque on behalf of management of the Ashanti regional Red Cross Society thanked management of BOST for the kind gesture and promised to put the money to good use. “We are grateful to BOST for responding to our request with this amount in support of our activities. We will make sure that the amount would be used to serve its purpose," Mr Michael Asante assured.

The regional manager said Ghanaians do not hear much about Red Cross activities due to the manner the society operates. He said it is often not the fault of staff not to publicize the soceity's activities because Red Cross serves the most vulnerable in the society and as such would not be appropriate to publicly announce the kind of assistance given to those who needed help.

Mr. Asante disclosed that his outfit faces numerous challenges which do not enable them to function as suppose to. He sited lack of operational logistics and financing as few of the many challenges that confront the Society.

”Our challenges are enormous so we need the support of every well meaning Ghanaian. Under normal circumstance, resources should be readily available to the Ghana Red Cross Society at the local levels to make the society more effective and efficient in rendering the needed services to the public in due time. But this has not been the case as common items like structures and other first aid kits needed to give immediate support to accident victims are most often difficult to come by. We are therefore using this medium to make this passionate appeal to all Ghanaians to come and support us”, he lamented.
